Starting a business in the Netherlands as an expat: leasing assets

Setting up a business in a new country takes money and time. By leasing business assets, you do not have to pay for everything at once.

Why lease at the start?

In the start-up phase, working capital is scarce. With lease you pay for an asset in instalments while it is already earning money. Your own funds stay available for other costs, such as rent, marketing and staff.

Leasing without annual accounts

A new business has no annual accounts yet. Lenders then look at your business plan, your experience and any contracts. Read more about equipment lease for start-ups and about leasing for start-ups.

Order of arranging things

  • municipal registration and BSN;
  • registration with the Chamber of Commerce;
  • business bank account;
  • quotation for the asset;
  • lease application with business plan.

Watch the term

Choose a term that matches the economic life of the asset. A term that is too long means you are still paying for something that is already worn out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I lease a company car as a start-up?

Yes, cars and vans can also be leased by start-ups, under the same conditions.

Do I need a business plan?

For a start-up without figures, a lender often asks for one.

Is it possible without a down payment?

That differs per lender and per asset.
