Lease car when leaving the Netherlands: what to arrange
Updated

If you are returning home or moving on, your lease contract may still be running. Arrange this in good time so you are not faced with surprises.
Operational lease
With operational lease you can end the contract early. You usually pay a fee that depends on the remaining term. Read more in ending a lease contract early. Sometimes a colleague or successor can take over the car.
Financial lease
With financial lease you pay off the remaining financing. You can then sell the car or take it with you. If you take the car to another country, allow for registration and taxes there. See also financial lease.
Returning the car and damage
When you return the car, it is inspected for damage and mileage. Have minor damage repaired in time and read damage on return.
Checklist
- contact the lease company two to three months before leaving;
- ask for a calculation of the termination fee;
- agree with your employer who bears the costs;
- cancel the insurance if you took it out yourself;
- hand in fuel card, keys and documents.
