Business car insurance for freelancers

As a freelancer you often use your car for both business and private purposes. Which insurance you need depends on whose name the car is in and what you use it for.

Business or private?

If the car is in your company's name or on your balance sheet, business car insurance is the obvious choice. A private policy does not always fully cover business use. Always check what your policy says about use for work.

Which cover should you choose?

The basis is third-party liability. For a newer or financed car you usually choose comprehensive cover. There are also add-ons, such as roadside assistance, passenger accident cover and legal expenses. Read more about business car insurance.

The premium is deductible

If the car belongs to your business, insurance costs are business expenses. A correction may be needed for private use. Ask your accountant to take this into account.

Comparing

When comparing, look not only at the premium but also at the excess, replacement transport and cover for items in the car. Compare via business car insurance.
